Message from the Chairman of the Appeal Committee:

I owe my vocation to the priesthood to the Community of the Resurrection.  As a teenager I made my first retreat at Mirfield.  It was conducted by Fr Ralph Bell, a tall thin priest who wore an Australian style hat.  He instructed us to find a quiet place and pray for God to guide us as to what to do with out lives.  I chose the Chapel of the Resurrection and half an hour later knew that this embryonic history teacher was destined for the priesthood.  For over 40 years my priesthood has been sustained by CR.  Those of us who have been privileged to have such a close association with CR value its unique place in our lives and in the lives of thousands of other people in this country and beyond.  I am delighted that both the Archbishop of Canterbury and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have agreed to be joint Patrons.  We will do our utmost to help raise the £2 million needed to revive the church building.

I am delighted to be a patron of the Appeal to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Community of the Resurrection Church.  This building is at the very heart of the Community, providing a focus for Christian worship and education and reminding us of the contribution of religious Communities to the church and to the wider society in the present day.  The church is now in need of urgent repair and upgrading so that it can continue to serve the Community and to welcome those individuals and organisations to whom it has opened its doors.  I warmly commend this project to you.

The Community of the Resurrection and its church are a fantastic resource for building up and encouraging the Church in challenging times.   I hope you will do all you can to assist the Brothers in their act of faith.  There is a chance here to help many people see that it's great to be alive, and equip them to help build a better world.
