COMPANIONS OF THE RESURRECTION

For more than a century there have been ‘Companions’ of the Community of the Resurrection. They until recently collectively came under the title of The Fraternity of the Resurrection. In the early decades of the 20thC this involved individuals committing to a rigorous Rule of Life prescribed and supported by the Community. Groups of Companions formed into Branches both for support for themselves, and to help further the expanding work of the Community both at home and abroad.

Times have changed, but the Community’s work goes on, and many individuals attempting to live out the Christian calling in the world, still value being supported in this by being a Companion of the Resurrection. This isn’t in isolation from being a member of a church congregation, but does connect them by a simple Rule of Life, with the particular life commitment made by the brethren of the Community of the Resurrection. The present day Companion’s Rule focuses on the threefold elements of - Community living, Worship, and Stewardship of time, talents and money. These are worked out with a trusted supporter in accordance with an individual’s lifestyle, and a commitment renewable annually is made. This renewal is collectively presented, or in absence forwarded, at a national event, alternating between the House of the Resurrection in the north, and a venue in the south of the country.
In previous decades it was simple for Companions to meet regularly, and in some areas they are still able to do this. However with changing and often fragmented lifestyles, this is difficult for many, and new ways of connecting to share ideas, experiences and news are being explored. It is early days, and things are still evolving - but perhaps that is as it should always be. Below are listed contact details for presently established autonomous groups, who have their own programme of meetings for discussion and sharing.
